Registered Apprenticeship – Employers

Registered Apprenticeship - Employers

1. Develop a Registered Apprenticeship Program

Are you ready to elevate your company by implementing a formal training program for critical roles? A Registered Apprenticeship is a powerful, customized training program tailored to your talent needs. Workforce Partnership is here to guide you through every step of the process, ensuring your program is successfully approved by the Kansas Office of Apprenticeship.

To get started on developing a customized training program, schedule a meeting with our Registered Apprenticeship Manager, Makayla Hagenhoff, at makaylah@workforcepartnership.com or our Director of Business Services, Roberta Rowland, at robertar@workforcepartnership.com. Let's make this happen!

2. Join an existing Registered Apprenticeship Program

Registered Apprenticeships have existed for hundreds of years. This means there may already be a Registered Apprenticeship model in place that your company can follow. Additionally, the Workforce Partnership can provide sponsorship for your Registered Apprenticeship Program.

What is a Sponsor?

    • A sponsor is any employer, association, committee, or organization that operates a Registered Apprenticeship Program. This entity takes full responsibility for the administration and operation of the apprenticeship program.
    • Sponsors can be individual businesses or a consortium of businesses. They can also include workforce intermediaries, such as industry associations or labor-management organizations. Additionally, community colleges, community-based organizations, and Workforce Boards can act as sponsors for apprenticeship programs. In fact, Workforce Partnership is a sponsor for apprenticeship and could potentially serve as your sponsor.
    • Employer sponsors are responsible for designing and implementing apprenticeship programs. They provide jobs for apprentices, oversee training development, and offer hands-on learning and technical instruction.

3. Apprenticeship Tax Credit
Kansas Employers with a Registered Apprenticeship program can take advantage of the Kansas Department of Revenue Tax Credits, which is $2,750 for each apprentice employed up to 20 apprentices per year for up to four years. For complete information on how to apply for this tax credit, visit the Kansas Office of Apprenticeship website.

4. MeadowLARK Grant and Youth Registered Apprenticeship Programs

Registered Apprenticeships can begin at the age of 16! If you are looking to provide employment and training, your company can establish a Youth Registered Apprenticeship program.

A Youth Registered Apprenticeship often is structured as a 2,000 hour program.  But because many youth apprentices may still be in high school, they are provided up to two years to complete the required OJT hours through part-time work and to complete the 144 minimum hours of related technical instruction.  Additionally, a Youth Registered Apprenticeship can incorporate required high school courses.

Are you interested in retaining entry-level talent and developing your talent pipeline? If so, we encourage you to contact Workforce Partnership to learn how to create a Youth Registered Apprenticeship and collaborate with your local school system. Your company can also benefit from additional Workforce Programs, such as Young Adult Pre-Apprenticeships and other grant-funded opportunities.

To get started, please get in touch with our Registered Apprenticeship Manager, Makayla Hagenhoff, at makaylah@workforcepartnership.com and/or our Director of Business Services, Roberta Rowland, at robertar@workforcepartnership.com.
